The English Channel or the Channel is the body of water which separates England from France, England to the northwest, France to the southeast. The Channel connects to the Celtic Sea to the west between 'The Lizard' of England and Ushant of France, and connects to the North Sea to the northeast between Dover, England and Calais, France.
The Channel Fleet, consisting of the inshore and offshore squadrons, patrolled the Channel for French naval vessels attempting to escape from France during the Wars and for any attempt at invasion by Napoleon forces from France to England.
